Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From the 2021-2022 academic year, girls, as an exception, will be allowed to attend school wearing headscarves and skullcaps in white and light colors. This was announced by the Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov.
At the same time, according to him, the scarf should be tied at the back.
Shermatov noted that girls can also wear long-collared shirts. He added that this is an exception, and it does not mean that everyone should go to school in such a uniform, and forcing someone to dress like that is unacceptable.
“Our goal is to educate our girls. Our analyzes over the past few years show that the indicators for education and admission to universities are the lowest in the old city of Tashkent - Shaikhantakhur, Almazar and Uchtepa districts,” the Minister said.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, Ferghana Valley has the highest rate of education in Ferghana, and in Margilan, which is only 50 kilometers away, it is the lowest. The same situation is observed in Qoqand. According to the minister, this applies to both girls and boys.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Science urged teachers not to create obstacles for girls who want to go to school in clothes that correspond to national traditions.
