Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A giraffe at the Tashkent Zoo has passed away due to complications from forestomach atony, according to the zoo’s press service.

“We employed all possible treatment methods, involved specialists, and consulted with foreign colleagues, including participation in international veterinary videoconferences,” the zoo stated.

Post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was gastric torsion.

Due to the unique anatomy of giraffes, surgical intervention on their gastrointestinal tract is impossible, as no successful operations of this kind have ever been recorded globally.

This is not the first such incident at the zoo. In August 2022, a giraffe named Alatau died from brain ischemia caused by ruminal tympany.
