Gender Equality Week kicks off in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9-11 March, the Republican Commission on Improving the Role of Women of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Society, Gender Equality and the Family, together with the ACTED branch in Uzbekistan, planned to hold a Week of Gender Equality in order to raise public awareness of rights women and available services.

In this regard, the opening ceremony of the Gender Equality Week was held in Tashkent.

The Gender Equality Week began with a round table for representatives of NGOs, civil society organizations, government departments and gender experts, representatives of international organizations, dedicated to discussing the results of an analytical report prepared on the identified problems in the current national legislation on domestic violence and its prevention.

It was attended by about 40 representatives of state institutions, non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations offline, and the rest of the participants - online.

The event was held within the framework of the project "Strengthening the capacity of civil society to support women at risk of violence and subjected to violence in Central Asia", funded by the French Development Agency (AFD).

The purpose of this event is to strengthen public dialogue on national legislation on gender equality and domestic violence, as well as to promote cross-sectoral cooperation with key stakeholders.

The Week will also focus on raising the awareness and capacity of local civil society to raise awareness of political legislation, protect women from harassment and violence and prevent them, and improve and stimulate an improved legal environment for women at risk of and survivors of violence. information service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

These events will be held in the city of Tashkent, Surkhandarya and Ferghana regions.
