Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15-16 February 2021, the 29th OSCE Economic and Environmental Online Forum was held on the theme "Promoting comprehensive security, stability and sustainable development in the OSCE region through the economic empowerment of women."
It was attended by representatives of the OSCE, relevant ministries and departments, members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Association of Business Women of Uzbekistan, and the media.
It was noted that the equal participation of women in the economic sphere makes a significant contribution to economic recovery, sustainable growth and the creation of a cohesive society, which is essential for security and stability.
The Forum was held in IV sessions and included issues of assistance in the implementation of political and legislative measures leading to ensuring equal economic participation and equal opportunities for women, the formation of women's human capital, ensuring equal participation of women in the labor market, supporting women's equal access to economic assets and financial goods and services, etc.
During the discussions, the need to constantly monitor the implementation of existing obligations to eliminate discrimination against women and ensure equality of opportunities in the economic sphere in order to identify examples of best practices and share them, as well as develop effective approaches, was noted.
Speaking at the forum, Chairperson of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality M. Kadirkhanova informed the participants about the work carried out in Uzbekistan during the quarantine period to support women.
The forum also talked about focusing on establishing a dialogue with the private sector in order to ensure equal opportunities for professional growth for women and reducing the pay gap, measures taken to increase diversification in employment sectors, as well as the formation of entrepreneurial and other work skills.
The participants exchanged experience in this area, outlined plans for further cooperation.
