Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 June 2022, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Gayrat Fozilov met with the head of the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Central Asia, Hans Friedrich Schodder.

During the conversation, topical issues of interaction between Uzbekistan and the UNHCR were considered.

Gayrat Fozilov informed the UNHCR delegation about the ongoing systematic work in Uzbekistan to ensure the protection of human rights and freedoms, harmonize national legislation with world standards in this area, effectively fulfill obligations, and enhance cooperation with international institutions.

Hans Friedrich Schodder highly appreciated the experience of Uzbekistan in regulating relations in the field of citizenship, including the adoption of the Law on Citizenship in a new edition. It was noted that the practical measures of the republic in this direction organically fit into the global efforts to reduce statelessness around the world.

An exchange of views took place on the situation in Afghanistan. Hans Friedrich Schodder expressed his gratitude to the Uzbek side for the UNHCR's feasible assistance in the delivery of humanitarian goods to this country.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the talks.
