Fraudster Convicted in Uzbekistan for Deceiving Hundreds of Citizens for 4.8 Billion Soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Uzbekistan, a man has been sentenced for defrauding hundreds of citizens, causing losses exceeding 4.8 billion soums, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The convicted, M.A., born in 1999 and a native of Guzar district in Kashkadarya region, created a Telegram account under the name Yolgʻiz boʻri.

He posted advertisements for the sale of expensive cars, including BYD and Toyota Prado models, which he did not own, offering them at significantly reduced prices.

To create the appearance of authenticity, the fraudster provided detailed specifications of the vehicles, including year of manufacture, mileage, and technical condition, and shared videos compiled from photos found on the internet and third-party platforms.

He promised prices far below market value: if a dealership sold a car for $80,000–$90,000, he offered it for $50,000.

Potential buyers were instructed to make an initial payment ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. The money was transferred to virtual accounts registered under third parties. Once the funds were received, the fraudster ceased communication and deleted all correspondence.

The court found M.A. guilty under Article 168 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (“Fraud”) and sentenced him to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment.
