Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In one of the districts of Khorezm Region, a quarantine and plant protection department employee was detained by law enforcement while receiving a bribe of 10,000 US dollars.

The bribe was given in exchange for facilitating a contract to supply 27 tons of fertilizers and the biocomplex "Biostimulator" to local farming enterprises owned by an LLC.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (points “a” and “v”), and investigative actions are currently underway.

In Syrdarya Region, another corruption case was exposed: a lead engineer from the gas supply department of "Gulistonsahargaz," responsible for work with small and medium businesses and budget consumers, together with the head of the community relations service, demanded 1,000 US dollars from a local resident. The money was requested to reduce the amount of damages for illegal use of natural gas in a residential building—from an initial 164 million soums down to 14 million soums.

During a joint operation conducted by the State Security Service Directorate of Syrdarya Region and the Prosecutor’s Office, the engineer was caught receiving the specified amount, with sufficient evidence collected.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detained engineer and the head of the service under Part 3 of Article 168 (point “v”) and Part 1 of Articles 28 and 211 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The investigation is ongoing.
