Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the end of January 2022, the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reached US$3.5 billion, which, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by US$1.16 billion (an increase of 49.9%), the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
Of the total foreign trade turnover volume, exports amounted to US$1.4 billion (an increase of 1.4% compared to January 2021), and imports amounted to US$2.1 billion (an increase of 28.0%). As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover amounted to a passive balance in the amount of - US$699.3 million.
Among the 20 major partner countries in foreign economic activity, there is also an active foreign trade balance with three countries, in particular with such countries as Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. With the remaining 17 countries, a passive balance of foreign trade turnover is maintained.
To date, the Republic of Uzbekistan has trade relations with 135 countries of the world. The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded with China (17.8%), the Russian Federation (16.4%), Kazakhstan (7.6%), Turkey (7.6%), the Republic of Korea (6.1%), Kyrgyzstan (1.7%) and Ukraine (1.4%).
In the structure of the foreign trade turnover of the republic, a significant share was noted in Tashkent city, which is 33.7%, or US$1.18 billion, and the smallest share is fixed at 1.0%, or US$34.7 million, which is marked in Surkhandarya region.
The share of foreign trade turnover of the CIS countries in the period under review, compared to the same period in 2021, decreased by 8.0% and their share in foreign trade turnover, at the end of January 2022, amounted to 32.4%.
The volume of foreign trade turnover of other states in January 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, increased by 8.0%, respectively, and amounted to 67.6% of the total foreign trade turnover.
The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the CIS countries reached US$1.13 billion. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to 387.0 million US dollars, and the volume of imports - US$747.1 million.
The largest volume of foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries was recorded with the Russian Federation (50.5%), Kazakhstan (23.5%) and Kyrgyzstan (5.3%).
The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the EAEU countries amounted to US$929.1 million. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to US$300.9 million, and the volume of imports - US$628.2 million.
In January 2022, the total number of exporting entities amounted to 2 312 units, which ensured that the volume of exports without gold reached US$812.8 million (an increase of 17.0% compared to the same period in 2021).
In the structure of exports, 87.4% is occupied by goods, which mainly fall on industrial goods (22.6%), food products and live animals (6.4%), various finished products (4.8%).
Due to the increase in exports to other foreign countries, the share of exports to the CIS countries decreased and their share in its total volume amounted to 27.7%.
Compared to 2020-2021, our main partners in the export of goods and services in foreign trade turnover in January 2022 were such countries as the Russian Federation, China, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Their share in total exports reached 45.9%.
In the structure of exports of the republic, a significant share was noted in Tashkent city, which is 18.1%, or US$253.8 million, and the smallest share was recorded at 1.2%, or US$17.3 million in Khorezm region.
The volume of exports of fruits and vegetables in the period under review amounted to 78.6 thousand tons and, in value terms, reached US$55.1 million (the growth rate, compared to the same period in 2021, amounted to 35.2%, respectively). Based on this, 45.4 thousand tons of vegetables were exported in the amount of US$25.3 million, as well as 10.1 thousand tons of fruits and berries in the amount of US$9.7 million.
In January 2022, the share of fruits and vegetables in total exports amounted to 3.9%. The main export markets for fruits and vegetables are the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, China and Pakistan.
According to the results of January 2022, the largest volume in terms of value of exports of fruits and vegetables falls on the Russian Federation (26.9% of the total volume of fruits and vegetables), which exceeds the volume of exports to China by 2.3 times.
At the end of January 2022, the export of textile products was carried out in the amount of US$253.8 million, which amounted to 18.1% of the total export volume and, compared to January 2021, it increased by 31.5%.
In the structure of exports of textile products, the main share is occupied by cotton yarn (56.7%), as well as finished knitwear and garments (22.1%). In January 2022, more than 323 types of textile products were exported to 45 countries around the world.
The largest share of textile exports goes to the Russian Federation (US$82.9 million - 32.7%) and Turkey (US$54.8 million - 21.6%).
The volume of exports of services in January 2022 amounted to US$176.5 million or 12.6% of the total volume of trade exports and increased by 5.3% compared to the same period in 2021. As part of the export of services, the lion’s share is occupied by transport services (66.0%), travel (tourism) (17.8%), telecommunications, computer and information services (7.6%), other business services (5.8%).
At the same time, other services (2.8%) account for the largest share respectively in financial services (0.8%), insurance and pension services (0.8%), maintenance and repair services (0.4%) and etc.
During the reporting period, imports amounted to US$2.1 billion (an increase in growth rates, compared to January 2021, amounted to 28.0%). The main share in its structure is occupied by machinery and transport equipment (34.2%), industrial goods (19.4%), as well as chemicals and similar products (14.5%).
An analysis of the dynamics of imports of goods also showed that in January 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, the volume of imports of goods increased by US$368.2 million and amounted to US$1.95 billion, and imports of services reached US$147.1 million.
The share of imports from the CIS countries, compared to the same period in 2021, decreased by 4.4% and their share in foreign trade turnover, at the end of January 2022, amounted to 35.6%.
In general, according to the results of January 2022, goods and services were imported to the Republic of Uzbekistan from 114 countries. One third of imports come from such large partner countries as China, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan, Turkey, India and Brazil.
In the structure of imports of the republic, a significant share was noted in Tashkent city, which is 44.1%, or US$926.0 million, and the smallest share was recorded in Surkhandarya - 0.5%, or US$10.3 million.
The volume of imports of services in January 2022 amounted to US$147.1 million, or 7.0% of its total volume, and increased by 2.6 times compared to the same period in 2021. As part of the import of services, the main share is occupied by travel (tourism - 65.8%), transport services (14.4%), telecommunications, computer and information services (6.8%), other business services (5.4%).
In addition, the share of other services accounted for 7.6% of total imports of services, including a high share of maintenance and repair services (2.5%), financial services (2.0%), fees for the use of intellectual property (1.9%), etc.
At the end of January 2022, in the structure of imports, the volume of machinery and transport equipment reached US$718.6 million and increased by 34.1% compared to the same period in 2021, in general, the share in total imports amounted to 34.2% .
Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by US$182.9 million. Most of the supply of these goods to the country falls on the PRC — US$274.7 million (38.2%), the Republic of Korea — US$142.8 million (19.9%) and Turkey — US$70.1 million (9.8 %).
At the end of January 2022, in the structure of imports, the volume of industrial goods reached US$407.3 million and increased by 50.4% compared to the same period in 2021, in general, the share in total imports amounted to 19.4%.
Most imports of manufactured goods fall on iron and steel (US$164.1 million), metal products (US$57.0 million), textile yarn, fabrics, finished products (US$47.7 million), cork products and wood (US$31.4 million), etc.
