Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 February 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who arrived in Tashkent on a working visit.
The heads of the foreign affairs agencies discussed a wide range of issues on the Uzbek-Latvian agenda, paying special attention to the prospects for developing cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.
The parties expressed their interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, intensifying political dialogue and expanding scientific and humanitarian exchanges.
The need was noted for expanding the legal framework for interaction by accelerating the consideration of drafts of a number of documents, including the Intergovernmental Agreement on Organized Recruitment and Employment, as well as protecting the rights of citizens of Uzbekistan engaged in temporary labor activities in the territory of Latvia.
The ministers stressed the importance of taking coordinated measures to increase mutual trade and diversify its structure. Proposals were considered for the further promotion of economic diplomacy, including through the implementation of joint investment projects and the organization of mutual trade missions.
An exchange of views took place on topical issues of international and regional politics.
During the meeting, a protocol was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia on cooperation and consultations.
Following the talks, a press conference was held for media representatives.
