Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and Germany held talks in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 November 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Annalena Baerbock.

During the meeting, topical issues of the Uzbek-German agenda, as well as interaction within the framework of multilateral structures, were considered.

The German side was informed about the main directions and achieved results of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy, the main priority of which is Central Asia.

Mutual interest was expressed in further building up political dialogue at the highest and high levels, continuing the practice of exchanging visits and experience, organizing joint events in various areas.

The need to expand trade and economic cooperation was emphasized, including by organizing the supply of a wide range of high-quality and competitive Uzbek products to the German market, and implementing joint projects with the involvement of leading German companies.

The German side was informed about the essence and significance of the constitutional reform being carried out in the republic, which, as noted, should create a solid legal basis, a guarantee of a long-term development strategy for Uzbekistan.

Proposals were considered to deepen cultural and humanitarian ties, especially in the field of education and science.

The ministers agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of ensuring human rights, spoke in favor of establishing a dialogue between the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and the German Institute for Human Rights. V. Norov invited German experts to the Global Forum on Human Rights Education, scheduled for 5-6 December 2022 in Tashkent.

The heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries discussed aspects of cooperation in the field of environmental protection, in particular, within the framework of the national program "Yashil Makon" and the initiative of the German Foreign Ministry "Green Central Asia".

Annalena Baerbock highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan in combating the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and expressed readiness to study the possibility of implementing specific environmental and social projects in the Aral Sea region.

The parties exchanged views on certain issues of an international and regional nature, including the current situation in Afghanistan.
