Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Educational, Medical and Methodological Center for Neonatal Surgery at the Republican Perinatal Center is an institution with unique experience in performing complex operations on newborns. The proof is also the flow of patients arriving here from neighboring republics. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health.
The parents of twins from Kyrgyzstan, who learned about this hospital from relatives in Uzbekistan, came here in June last year.
The fact is that the babies born on 31 May 2022 are Siamese twins, and this unusual condition was discovered in them at the 28th week of pregnancy, and the woman was sent from the city of Osh to the capital Bishkek. At week 29, delivery was performed surgically by caesarean section. The babies, whose total weight at birth was 1600 grams, were named Fotima and Zukhra.
“This extremely complex operation was performed by Uzbek doctors from beginning to end,” says Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor B. Ergashev. “This operation could not have been carried out without the help of the most experienced surgeons in our country. We were closely assisted by our mentors - the director of the Center for the Development of Professional Qualifications of Medical Workers, Professor Khabibullo Akilov and the head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at TashPMI, Professor Nasriddin Ergashev.
But we all felt the level of the operation, its critical factors. Within a few months, after reading and studying various literature, analyzing video materials of operations carried out at the international level, we decided to take full responsibility and get to work. We explained the whole situation to the parents of the children. They were also told that if they wanted, they could take them to another country. But they said they were well acquainted with our previous practices and trusted us completely. This faith also gave us strength.
During the operation, ultrasound and an argon scalpel, as well as a modern hemostatic material called "bloodstop", were used to prevent bleeding from the liver and other vessels. As a result, the children were separated with minimal bleeding.
Fortunately, it turned out that the gallbladders of the patients were formed separately. This ensured that even when the two bodies were separated, the gallbladders performed their function without problems.
After the separation of the Siamese twins, Fotima was operated on by a team of neonatologists consisting of Professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev, Professor Nasriddin Ergashev and Nurbek Egamnazarov, and Zuhra was operated on by Professor Khabibullo Akilov, Javlon Mukhtorov and Abdujamil Abduganiyev.
They were directly assisted by neonatologists, resuscitators and anesthesiologists of the Republican Perinatal Center U. Azimov, M. Shovazov, A. Kurbonova, F. Juraeva, D. Khalikulova, M. Miryunusova, as well as a group of qualified operating room and nurses.
Experts assess the condition of children as stable. There is hope that the girls will be discharged soon. In achieving this result, surgeons working together and a large team acting at a professional level played a key role.
The specialists who took part in the operation to separate the Siamese twins were awarded by the Minister of Health Amrillo Inoyatov with badges "Excellent Health Worker".
