Focusing on the future: priorities and innovative practices

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23-24 September, in the format of videoconferencing, the “High-level seminar 2021 for the National Statistical Services of the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia” (IMS 2021 EECCA): Focusing on the future: priorities and innovative practices” organized by Eurostat and EFTA in cooperation with UNECE.

The agenda of the first day of the seminar discussed the results and achievements of reforms in statistics of national services, in a global context, an agenda for future priority areas of international cooperation.

The organizers of the event, Ms Cristina Pereira De Sá from Eurostat, Mr. Volker Täube from EFTA, Mr Steven Vale from UNECE, welcomed the participants of the seminar.

A roundtable discussion took place on the future priorities of statistical cooperation between the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The reports of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and also Uzbekistan were heard.

The State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics at the high-level seminar was presented by the Deputy Chairman Ziyayev Zoxidjan Muratovich. In his report, he emphasized that the ongoing reforms in the Republic, carried out over the past 5 years, raised the development of national statistics in Uzbekistan to a new level. During this period, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan has done a great job to develop international cooperation and disseminate the most important statistical indicators based on more than 45 types of questionnaires developed by statistical offices of more than 16 international organizations, including: UN Statistics Division, CIS Statistical Committee, UNECE, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNESCO, FAO, ADB, WB, IMF, etc.

On the second day of the agenda, the experience of the national statistical services of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Uzbekistan in the development of innovative and digital statistics is presented.

In particular, on behalf of the State Statistics Committee, Akrom Sultanov, head of the Department for Monitoring and Coordination of the Open Data Portal, and Shahboz Samadov, Deputy Head of the Department for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies and Interactive Public Services, made reports on the results achieved and priority tasks.
