First Uzbek solar station can cost US$207m

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State joint stock company Uzbekenergo rated construction of the first solar power station in Samarkand region of Uzbekistan at US$207 million, KazTAG reported quoting source in the company.

The feasibility study of the project was developed and submitted to approval to the authorized body. The sources of financing of the project were determined, the source said.

According to assessment of Uzbekenergo, the company can announce a tender on selection of general contractor for construction of solar power station with the capacity of 100 megawatt. The plant will be able to produce up to 200 million KWH of electricity a year. The plant will be constructed within two years.

The project will be financed due to loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan for US$107 million, loan of the Asian Development Bank – US$90 million and own resources of Uzbekenergo – US$10 million.

Uzbekistan plans to build several solar power stations with the capacity of over 2 gigawatt. The projects will be financed due to own resources of Uzbekenergo and loans of international financial institutions.

Potential of solar energy in Uzbekistan is rated at 50.973 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, which makes up 99.7% of all studied renewable energy sources.
