First Phase of Arrival Hall Reconstruction Completed at Tashkent International Airport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first phase of the large-scale reconstruction of the arrival hall at Tashkent International Airport named after Islam Karimov has been completed. As part of the project, the newly renovated right wing of the terminal has been put into operation, significantly improving passenger comfort and service quality.
The renovation included an expansion of the arrival hall area, construction of a new access road for cars and buses, creation of a 120-space parking lot, and development of a landscaped green zone. By extending the building's facade, the hall’s area was increased by 2,100 square meters.
This expansion enabled the enlargement of the customs zone, installation of an additional baggage carousel, and — for the first time — the creation of a comfortable waiting area for greeters inside the terminal, with seating for 120 people.
According to the construction department of Uzbekistan Airports JSC, the reconstruction is being carried out in phases to ensure uninterrupted airport operations.
"Today, work on the right side of the terminal has been completed. Starting tomorrow, reconstruction of the left side will begin. From November through June — despite challenging weather conditions and a demanding schedule of up to 200 flights per day — construction continued without interruption. We thank our passengers for their patience and are confident that the renovated terminal will be a worthy gateway to the capital," the company stated.
Among the new features is a short-term drop-off zone at the arrival hall. Passengers and those meeting them can now use taxis, private cars, or buses for drop-off with a time limit of up to 10 minutes, similar to the existing departure zone.
The second phase of the reconstruction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. It includes the installation of another baggage carousel and an expansion of the waiting area, which will feature food outlets, retail shops, and service facilities.
The final stage will see the integration of the arrival and departure halls into a unified terminal complex. Upon completion, the total terminal area will exceed 10,000 square meters, and its throughput capacity will increase to 2,400 passengers per hour.
