Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first meeting of the Uzbek-American Business and Investment Council took place in Tashkent, the head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyeva, announced.

“I am pleased to announce that the first meeting of the Uzbek-American Business and Investment Council was held with the participation of the U.S. Special Envoy, Ambassador Sergio Gor,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.

According to her, the discussions were conducted in a productive and forward-looking atmosphere, and a significant amount of work lies ahead on key areas of mutual interest to both countries.

The Council was established by decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in November 2022 as a platform to strengthen strategic economic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States.

It will operate under co-chairmanship: from the Uzbek side, the head of the Presidential Administration; from the U.S. side, a representative of the President of the United States. The American co-chair is Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor, and the Uzbek co-chair is Saida Mirziyeva.

The Council’s agenda includes promoting Uzbekistan’s export potential, especially in IT services, continuing negotiations on tariff reductions, and developing proposals to diversify the country’s investment portfolio, including the use of part of the Central Bank’s foreign currency reserves.
