First Deputy Head of Uzbekistan’s Tax Committee Dismissed for Negligence and Weak Oversight
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Mubin Mirzaev, First Deputy Chairman of the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan, has been dismissed from his post for “negligence and irresponsibility,” according to the presidential press service.
The issue was raised on January 27 during a videoconference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which focused on measures to create a safe environment in the capital and to establish an effective system for ensuring public security.
The head of state drew attention to a growing number of cases within the Tax Committee involving the незаконное reimbursement of value-added tax from the state budget through the artificial creation of tax overpayments.
According to the president, criminal cases were initiated last year alone against 20 employees of the tax authorities in connection with unlawful VAT refunds.
In this context, President Mirziyoyev pointed to insufficient oversight and an irresponsible approach on the part of First Deputy Chairman Mubin Mirzaev, who had supervised this area for seven years, and announced his dismissal.
