Ferghana State University Opens Azerbaijan Studies Classroom Named After Bakhtiyar Vahabzade

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the “Days of Azerbaijani Art and Literature” project, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijani Cultural Center under the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan, Ferghana State University held a ceremonial opening of an Azerbaijan Studies classroom, named in honor of the eminent Azerbaijani national poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade.

The ceremony was attended by the university rector, Bahodirjon Shermukhammadov, and the director of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center, Akif Marifli, who officially inaugurated the new classroom.

In his address, Rector Shermukhammadov highlighted the importance of strengthening humanitarian and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

“Expanding inter-university contacts allows young people to gain a deeper understanding of the language, literature, and culture of a friendly nation,” he emphasized, noting the significance of Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s legacy as a unifying spiritual pillar for the two brotherly peoples.

Akif Marifli stressed that the new classroom will serve as “a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the countries.” He noted that the space will function not only symbolically but also as a practical educational center, where students can study the Azerbaijani language, literature, history, and culture, as well as engage in academic discussions and collaborative projects.

The classroom’s design incorporates cultural symbols, including portraits of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, national flags, and an artistic installation featuring Azerbaijan’s map, coat of arms, and national anthem. The interior displays portraits and biographical information about Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, photographs of prominent literary and cultural figures, samples of traditional carpets and kelaghayi, applied arts, and national musical instruments such as the tar, kamancha, and gaval.

Bookshelves feature publications on Azerbaijani literature, history, music, and humanitarian relations, making the space both an educational and cultural hub.

The opening of the Bakhtiyar Vahabzade Azerbaijan Studies classroom marks another step in strengthening cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and creating opportunities for deeper spiritual and educational engagement among students from both countries.
