Ferghana region and China’s Xinjiang establish interregional cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation of officials and entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region, led by regional governor Khayrullo Bozorov, is currently on a working visit to the People’s Republic of China.

The visit began in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, where the delegation held a series of meetings. Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to China, Farhod Arziev, also took part in the events.

In the city of Urumqi, extensive talks were held with a Chinese delegation led by Ma Xingrui, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Party Committee. The discussions focused on the prospects for direct cooperation between the two regions.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan–China relations have reached a new qualitative level, largely thanks to the strong, sincere, and brotherly ties between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Cooperation is expanding across all sectors. The launch of the new China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project was hailed as a historic milestone. Interregional relations are intensifying, and collaboration between Xinjiang and Uzbekistan has been described as productive.

Proposals were made to develop direct cooperation between Ferghana and Xinjiang in various fields. Governor Bozorov stated that interregional ties between the two countries have become an effective mechanism for strategic partnership, and he presented Ferghana’s economic and investment potential.

Suggestions were put forward for cooperation in agriculture, textiles and light industry, tourism, electrical engineering, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, and education.

In particular, proposals included adopting Xinjiang’s advanced agricultural technologies, creating a joint applied research center for training agricultural specialists, establishing academic exchanges, and opening a seed breeding center and a nursery for fruit and ornamental seedlings in the Kuva district. Other initiatives were suggested in tourism, textile manufacturing, fertilizer production, mechanical engineering, and the creation of a bilateral Chamber of Commerce association.

A working group headed by First Deputy Governor Mirzokhid Ubaydullaev agreed to study Kashgar’s experience in tourism and to develop a cross-regional tourism route.

Following the negotiations, preliminary agreements were reached on the proposed initiatives, and implementation measures were outlined.
