Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ferghana has been admitted to the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network (GSNC), Dunyo news agency reports.
Ferghana’s candidacy was recommended by the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, and the decision to join the network was announced in Paris.
These cities are outstanding examples of how lifelong learning can be a reality at the local level. They prove that effective lifelong learning policies and practices can contribute to the development of inclusive, safe and sustainable cities.
It should be noted that Ferghana has become the only Central Asian city included today in this global structure.
The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, as the coordinator of the network, accepted new members after they were nominated by the National Commissions for UNESCO. As part of the application process, candidate cities were required to demonstrate a clear vision of how to provide lifelong learning opportunities to every member of the community.
The UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network is an international organization for the exchange of knowledge, skills and best practices. At the moment the structure has 230-member cities from 64 countries of the world. The UNESCO GDLC is the only United Nations entity with a global mandate for lifelong learning.
