Fabio Cannavaro Shares Thoughts on Uzbekistan’s First World Cup

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Head coach of the Uzbekistan national football team, Fabio Cannavaro, shared his impressions of the 2026 World Cup draw on his social media accounts.

Cannavaro emphasized the significance of the team’s participation in the tournament. “When we attended the FIFA draw in Washington, one thought was in our hearts — Uzbekistan. I thought of our country both before and after the group stage opponents were revealed. This is our first experience at the World Cup, and we must give everything to make the Uzbek people proud and give them a sense of pride,” Cannavaro said.

The Italian coach also expressed respect for the team’s future opponents: “Regardless of who becomes our third opponent — New Caledonia, Jamaica, or the Democratic Republic of Congo — we will treat them with respect. But above all, we respect ourselves and our fans.”

Uzbekistan will compete in Group K, facing Portugal, Colombia, and the winner of the intercontinental playoff between New Caledonia, Jamaica, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
