Exports of cement at UZEX makes up US$18m in 1H 2011

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the first six months of 2011, the Uzbek Commodity Exchange (UZEX) realized cement for US$18 million to exports. The share of sales of this segment in total UZEX’s exports reached about 18%.

According t UZEX experts, the export price of one tonne of cement (PC-400 D-20, bulk) made up US$61.4 in average this summer. At the same time, the price was US$45 per tonne in the beginning of 2011. The experts underlined that the current price is acceptable for buyers and sellers.

According to Uzstroymaterialy, largest producer and exporters of the cement (as of the beginning of 2011) in Uzbekistan were Kyzylkumcement (3.1m tonnes), Ahangarancement (1.74m tonnes), Quvasoycement (920,000 tonnes) and Bekabadcement (about 900,000 tonnes).

Overall, in the first half of 2011, these four cement plants realized over 1.7 million tonnes of cement in internal and external market. For example, the volume of exports of Uzbekistan made up 1.3 million tonnes in 2009.

Main importers of Uzbek cement are Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan The main purchasers of cement in Uzbekistan is consumers of Tashkent region. Their share makes up 28% (3% less compared to previous year) and they bought 414,000 tonnes of cement.

UZEX experts underline that PC-400 D-20 is the mostly demanded cement. Its share currently reached 65.1% of market. Sales of cement PC 500 increased significantly in 2011 (17.8% in total exports structure). Demand for special cement (SSPC-400 D-0 and PPC M-400) is also increasing. They share made up 16.8%.

In 2010, UZEX realized 600,000 tonnes of cement to exports. The exports of cement grew twice compared to 2009. About 50% of cement exports fell to share of Kyzylkumcement, which realized five types of cement. Kyzylkumcement also leads on sales of cement in internal market. Its share made up 40%.

Share of cement enterprises in total volume of products of construction material industry makes up 72%. In 2009, internal demand of cement made up 5.5 million tonnes in 2009 and 5.7 million tonnes in 2010. In perspective, internal demand can reach 8-8.5 million tonnes by 2012. According to the forecasts, the demand can reach 12 million tonnes if to take into account development of infrastructure, industry and social objects in Uzbekistan.

In 2010-2012, it is planned to construct additional cement capacities with the volume of 6 million tonnes in various years. Cement enterprises of Uzbekistan is active participant of the Habitation Construction in Rural Areas.
