EU Provides Uzbekistan with €7 Million Grant to Develop Agriculture
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The European Union has granted the Government of Uzbekistan €7 million to support the ongoing implementation of the Agricultural Development Strategy for 2020–2030.
This was announced by the EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Toivo Klaar, during a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov.
During the discussions, the parties reviewed current EU–Uzbekistan cooperation in the agricultural sector and reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
The new grant is part of the EU’s total support package of €20 million: €6 million was provided in 2023, and the remaining €7 million is planned for 2026, contingent upon continued reforms and the achievement of agreed-upon targets.
“The significant progress Uzbekistan has made in agricultural reforms is impressive. Key challenges now include strengthening economic land-use rights and managing the food security system—critical for attracting investment and enhancing export competitiveness, especially in the context of WTO accession,” emphasized Ambassador Klaar.
He also noted that the EU will continue supporting Uzbekistan in completing reforms and deepening cooperation in the agricultural sector, which will help expand trade opportunities, promote sustainable development, and strengthen bilateral partnership.
