EU actively supports Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen connectivity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 22 February 2023, a meeting was held at the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISMI) with a European delegation headed by the Permanent Rapporteur of the European Parliament on Uzbekistan Ilhan Kyuchyuk.

During the talks, the parties discussed the ongoing socio-political and socio-economic transformations in New Uzbekistan, the state and prospects for the development of Uzbek-European partnerships.

European experts were provided with detailed information on the results of structural reforms in our country in all spheres of society and the state, including Tashkent’s assistance in maintaining friendly, good neighborly and mutually beneficial relations with the countries of the region.

According to the Permanent Rapporteur of the European Parliament on Uzbekistan, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, the current dynamics in European-Uzbek relations is seen as very positive due to the reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It was emphasized that the accession of our republic to the special mechanism for stimulating sustainable development and good governance of the EU (GSP +) contributed to the growth of trade and economic ties with the European Union.

At the same time, the EU, being one of the main partners of the republic, actively supports the country’s efforts to strengthen connectivity in the region.

At the same time, the discussions focused on the importance of implementing the EU Global Gateway strategy, which will effectively use the huge potential of the European Union and Central Asia for mutually beneficial cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed hope for continued interaction on a wide range of issues aimed at further strengthening Uzbek-European cooperation.
