Environmental Violations Identified at "Kyzylkum Phosphorite Complex" in Navoi Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Reports circulated on social media regarding potential air pollution from the "Kyzylkum Phosphorite Complex" prompted an unscheduled inspection by the Main Department of Ecology and Climate Change of Navoi Region.
The inspection revealed that production facilities at the enterprise, located in Konimekh District, were not fully complying with the requirements set by the state environmental review.
Excess emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere were recorded. In particular, phosphorite dust emissions from Source No. 28 exceeded permissible levels by 3.5 times.
Additionally, the company submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application for the extraction and use of non-metallic minerals at the "Tashkura" quarry in Konimekh District. However, the state environmental review for this project has not yet been issued.
To address the violations and prevent further environmental damage, operations at two production workshops have been temporarily suspended for 10 days.
The company has been fined a total of 2,042,192,877 soums for violations related to air pollution, wastewater discharge, and waste disposal. Administrative protocols were also drawn up against five responsible officials.
The inspection materials have been forwarded to the Konimekh District Court for consideration and enforcement of appropriate measures.
