Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov spoke at the 5th meeting of the German-Uzbek Business Council, held on 8 November 2021 in Frankfurt am Main.
During the presentation on the topic "Opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector of the Republic of Uzbekistan", the head of the Ministry of Energy paid special attention to the progress of reforming the country’s energy sector and increasing generation based on renewable energy sources.
As noted, according to an analysis carried out by independent experts, the potential for generating electricity using solar stations in Uzbekistan is equal to 51 billion oil equivalent, and the potential for wind generation is 360 million tons of oil equivalent.
In Uzbekistan, since 2019, the process of holding tenders for the implementation of projects for the construction and subsequent operation of solar photovoltaic power plants (PVP) and wind power plants (WPP) is underway.
Thus, with the assistance of the International Finance Corporation, 2 stages of tenders for a total capacity of about 500 MW were completed with record low tariffs of 2.67 and 1.89 cents per kilowatt hour. In August 2021, following the results of the first stage with Masdar (UAE), the first 100 MW PVP was launched in Uzbekistan.
In August this year, the third stage of the tender for the FES project with a total capacity of 500 MW in the regions of the republic was announced, applications for which are accepted until November 29.
Together with ADB, tenders are being carried out for the construction of a PVP with a total capacity of 1 GW in 2019-2025. It is planned to announce a tender for FES projects with a total capacity of 400 MW in 2 more regions of the republic.
Work is underway on wind farm projects. Thus, ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) became the winner of the tender for the construction of a 100 MW wind farm. The auction was held with the assistance of the EBRD. In 2022, it is planned to hold a tender for a wind farm project with a capacity of 200 MW.
German companies invited to participate in renewable energy projects have expressed their great interest.
During the presentation, various projects of the Fuel and Energy Complex of Uzbekistan were presented, which will be implemented on the basis of direct investments, including the construction of substations, power lines, the introduction of advanced products in the oil and gas industry, maintenance of oil and gas equipment, others.
