Employment in Uzbekistan increases by 2.7% in 1Q

The number of employed population estimated at 10.995 million in January-March 2009 or increased by 2.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
The growth of employment occurred due to increase of number of employed in the non-production sphere by 3.4% and in branches of material production by 2.4%.
In branches of material production, the most intensive growth in number of employed was observed in construction (by 5.8%), trade and catering (by 5.2%), transport and communication (by 3.5%), industry (by 2.1%).
