Electricity Generation in Uzbekistan Rises 6% in Early 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Total electricity generation in Uzbekistan rose by 6.0% in January–February 2026 compared with the same period last year, reaching 15.26 billion kWh against 14.39 billion kWh previously, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The growth in overall generation was driven primarily by small enterprises, while large-scale producers continued to reduce output. Electricity generation by small businesses surged 63.2%, from 2.81 billion kWh to 4.58 billion kWh. In contrast, major producers cut their output by 7.8%, falling to 10.68 billion kWh from 11.58 billion kWh.

As a result, the share of small businesses in total electricity production reached 30.0% for January–February 2026, up from 19.5% in the same period last year. This trend reflects accelerated development of distributed and renewable energy generation in the country.

At the same time, large enterprises reduced thermal energy production by 13.1%, from 5,221.6 to 4,539.4 thousand Gcal, highlighting a shift in the energy sector toward more decentralized sources.
