Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 June this year, a regular meeting of the Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was held.

At the meeting, which was chaired by the Chairman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva, the results of the elections of chairmen (aksakals) of citizens’ gatherings held in the republic in May were discussed.

As noted, in accordance with the resolution of the Kengash of the Senate from 15 March 2022, elections were held in 9,349 mahallas with the participation of members of the public.

In the elections, 9,349 mahalla chairmen were elected from among 26,910 proposed candidates by secret ballot.

It was noted that the elections were held in accordance with the requirements of the law in an open, transparent and fair manner with the participation of senators, deputies of local Kengashes, and representatives of citizens.

Time is moving rapidly, people are thinking in a new way, their worldview and requirements are changing. Therefore, mahallas also need a new approach to organizing work.

It is no coincidence that the head of state noted that the residents of the mahalla should feel the results of all reforms and transformations in their lives. Taking into account these factors, high requirements are set for candidates for chairpersons of mahallas.

Thanks to this, about 95% of the elected chairmen of mahallas have higher education, and 6,272 were elected to this position for the first time. Best of all, the number of women among them also increased to 1,104.

At the meeting, Senator T. Madumarov, Deputy Minister for Support of the Mahalla and the Older Generation A. Tursunov spoke in detail about the appeals of citizens on issues related to the organization and conduct of elections. In particular, it was noted that the appeals received were promptly studied, on the basis of some appeals, the electoral processes in some regions were temporarily suspended in accordance with the law, after the circumstances were clarified, the elections were continued.

As a result of the meeting, the Resolution of the Kengash of the Senate "On the results of the election of chairmen (aksakals) of citizens’ gatherings" was adopted.
