Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies Eldor Aripov, speaking on the sidelines of the High-Level International Conference "Regional Cooperation of the Countries of Central Asia in the Framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy", held on 3-4 March in Tashkent, noted that in order to eliminate the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism, an integrated approach and unification of efforts at the regional and global levels are needed.
As the head of the ISMI emphasized, the Tashkent Declaration adopted today and the updated Joint Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia are fully in line with the promotion of this approach.
The ISMI director noted: “The President of Uzbekistan proposed to open an office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office in Central Asia as a priority initiative to develop further regional cooperation”
“This structure will have to turn into a mechanism for constant monitoring and critical evaluation of the implementation of the Counter-Terrorism Strategy in the region,” said Eldor Aripov, director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies, at the first breakout session: “Removing conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism” of the high-level international conference “Regional cooperation of countries Central Asia as part of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, which takes place on 3-4 March in Tashkent.
“Along with this, this office can act as a coordinator of the activities of other international and regional organizations operating in this area in Central Asia,” he stressed.
Aripov stressed that the initiative of the Head of Uzbekistan to hold a permanent Youth Council of the countries of Central and South Asia in Samarkand in 2023 carries a very deep meaning in the context of the formation of a sustainable dialogue between representatives of the new generation of our countries.
The current international conference has become a practical implementation of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, put forward at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
The event is organized by the ISMI under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, as well as the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
