Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The resolution of the President “On additional measures for the development of the Uzbek sign language and the Braille alphabet” adopted.
According to the resolution, one of the main directions for the development of the Uzbek sign language and Braille was the implementation of comprehensive measures to further develop and improve the legal status of the Uzbek sign language, encouraging its use as a means of communication.
From 1 January 2023, special training courses on teaching Uzbek sign language and Braille will be organized in educational institutions, monocenters "Ishga Markhamat".
Education at special training courses for persons with visual, hearing and speech impairments, as well as parents or persons replacing them, minor children of this category is carried out free of charge, other persons - on a paid basis.
From 1 January 2023, programs in the amount of at least five percent of the weekly airtime of state TV channels are broadcast with sign language translation, closed captioning or with a “creeping line”.
Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, only teaching staff who know the sign language in which classes are taught will be hired as teachers in specialized educational institutions for deaf and hard of hearing children.
When forming the parameters of the state order for admission to higher educational institutions for the 2023/2024 academic year, it was decided to increase the admission rates by 25 percent on the basis of the state grant for the areas of Deaf Pedagogy and Tyflopedagogy.
Starting from 2023, every September the competition "Best Sign Language Translator" is held, the winners of the competition are awarded with the following amounts of money:
for 1st place - 100 sizes of basic estimated value;
for 2nd place - 65 sizes of basic estimated value;
for 3rd place - 50 sizes of basic estimated value.
