Education Official Detained in Jizzakh Region for Bribery
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Jizzakh region, a joint operation by the State Security Service and anti-corruption prosecutors uncovered illegal activities by a senior official in the education system.
According to the investigation, the head of the Department of Preschool and School Education, abusing his official powers, demanded a bribe of 4.8 million soums from the director of a state preschool institution in exchange for refraining from conducting an inspection. The official was caught “red-handed” with physical evidence of the cash received.
A criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Minor Bribery”), and investigative actions are ongoing.
During the investigation, other unlawful actions by the individual were also identified, falling under Articles 167, 209, and 243 of the Criminal Code.
Authorities emphasized that corruption in the education system is being strictly addressed at all levels, and those found guilty are held fully accountable.
