Education: a large study load is not a guarantee of quality

 

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) conducted a study to identify the study load of schoolchildren in Uzbekistan.

According to the results of the study, it was revealed:

1. Uzbek students study much more, the average weekly load is 28.2 hours.

2. Uzbek students learn mathematics much less than students from other countries.

3. In the curriculum of schools in Uzbekistan, more time is devoted to the study of social and applied subjects.

4. The ratio of pupils to one teacher is 11.9 pupils.

5. The number of teaching hours for teachers from Uzbekistan does not differ much from others

IPMI experts also conducted a survey among parents (N=203), the results of which revealed:

- the majority of parents (61.1%) consider the intensity of the training load for the child to be optimal, 25.1% consider it high, and 13.8% low.

- 38.4% of parents are not satisfied with the level of knowledge received in schools, 12.8% of parents rated the level of knowledge of their children as high, 48.8% consider it sufficient for future professions;

- the majority of parents actively use the services of tutors: systematically - 40.9%, sometimes - 34.5%, do not use - 24.6%;

- in the opinion of many parents (59.1%), there are subjects in the curriculum of schools that could be studied outside of school on their own.

Based on the results of econometric analysis, it was revealed that the quality of education is primarily influenced by the child’s interest in learning and the level of knowledge of teachers.
