Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 June 2020, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva, during her visit to Geneva, also took part in panel discussions on the topic "Expanding women’s economic opportunities and their participation in decision-making processes: best practices in national, regional and international levels”.
During the event, issues of comprehensive support for women, protection of their rights and freedoms, legitimate interests, as well as strengthening the role of women in government and society were discussed.
More than 70 statesmen, experts, scientists and specialists took part in it.
Tanzila Narbayeva, in her speech, focused on the experience of implementing gender policy in Uzbekistan.
In particular, it was noted that in recent years, on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, large-scale reforms have been carried out in our country aimed at ensuring gender equality and women’s participation in the management of society and the state, their comprehensive support, as well as protection from harassment and violence.
In addition, the participants were greatly interested in the measures taken in Uzbekistan to ensure gender equality, the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
At the end of the event, the participants agreed on the exchange of experience at the international level to increase the activity of women, protect their interests, ensure gender equality and develop a dialogue in this direction.
