Drivers should switch on headlights while driving from 1 January

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 1 January 2021, the requirement to turn on headlights while driving in the daytime comes into force.

On 9 April 2019, the Government of Uzbekistan included in the "Rules of the road" (paragraph 138) a provision that all motor vehicles must turn on headlights or daytime running lights during daylight hours.

Later, due to public objections, in June 2019, this rule was postponed until 1 January 2021.

From 1 January, drivers who did not turn on the headlights or daytime running lights during daylight hours will be held administratively liable under Article 128 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The fine will be 50% of the base estimated value (BEV) (now - 111,500 soums). For the second offense during the year, the fine will be 1 BEV (now - 223,000 soums) and for the third violation - 3 BEVs (669,000 soums).

If more than three violations are committed during the year, the fine will be 4 BEVs (892,000 soums) or the driver will be deprived of the right to drive transport for up to 6 months.

From 1 January 2020, the installation of lighting devices with automatic switching on during the daytime on cars produced for the domestic market has been determined as mandatory.

Imported cars that do not have auto lights switch will not be allowed.
