DJ Fined for Unauthorized Use of Songs by Popular Artists
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Navoi region, a violation of copyright laws involving works by Uzbek artists has been identified.
The lead singer of the group “Bojalar,” Jahongir Poziljonov, as well as singers Doston Ergashev and Asilbek Amanullah (Negmatov), were found to be victims of unauthorized use of their compositions.
During joint monitoring activities conducted by the Navoi Regional Department of Justice and the regional branch of “O‘zbekkonsert,” it was determined that DJ I. Ruziyev publicly used the songs “Uylanamiz” (performed by Jahongir Poziljonov and Doston Ergashev) and “Oppoq aka” (performed by Asilbek Amanullah) without the authors’ permission or a written contract. The infringement took place at the Registon event center in the Karmana district.
An administrative offense report was drawn up under Article 177¹ of the Code of Administrative Liability. The Karmana District Criminal Court found the offender guilty and imposed a fine in accordance with the first part of the mentioned article.
Uzbek legislation provides that authors have the right to claim compensation ranging from 20 to 1,000 times the base calculation value.
