Developer Arrested in Tashkent for Attempting to Bribe Emergency Services Official

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement authorities in Tashkent have detained a property developer who attempted to bribe an official from the city’s Civil Protection Department, the press service of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.

According to the agency, the entrepreneur offered US$30,000 in exchange for a favorable decision on the application for commissioning a 12-story residential complex in the Yakkasaray district, submitted through the portal Nazorat.MS.uz. An inspection of the building had revealed numerous deficiencies that had not been addressed.

The Emergency Services employee promptly informed management, after which the developer was caught in the act during the handover of the funds.

A criminal case has been initiated under point “a” of Part 3, Article 211 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Bribery”), and pre-trial detention has been applied. Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
