Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis discussed in the first reading a bill aimed at preventing the use of torture against individuals detained as part of a criminal case.

The document proposes amendments to the Law "On Detention During Criminal Proceedings." According to the amendments, before placing an individual in a pre-trial detention facility, a mandatory medical examination will be conducted on-site.

Additionally, if injuries or bodily harm are identified during the examination, the prosecutor must be immediately notified of the incident.

The adoption of the bill aims to prevent unlawful actions, including torture, against individuals in custody.

During the session, deputies supported the bill, and it was passed in the first reading.
