Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 December 2022, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu received an Uzbek delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov.

Assistant Secretary Lu reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Uzbekistan.

The United States thanked Uzbekistan for its key participation in the C5+1 diplomatic format and emphasized the importance of the format for jointly solving problems and building a more prosperous and secure Central Asia.

The delegations stressed their determination to strengthen trade and investment partnerships and maintain a favorable business environment in both countries.

The delegations discussed freedom of the media, protection of journalists and support for civil society.

Assistant Secretary Lu stressed Uzbekistan’s commitment to peace and security in the region.

The United States welcomed Uzbekistan’s willingness to create new trade routes and diversify import and export markets and strengthen regional ties.

Assistant Secretary Lu and Foreign Secretary Norov jointly decided to reconvene the U.S.-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership Dialogue in 2023.
