Delegation of Uzbekistan Participates in the Plenary Session of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan, led by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva, took part in the plenary session of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held in Geneva.

The session focused on the theme “Upholding Humanitarian Norms and Supporting Humanitarian Action in Times of Crisis.”

In her address, Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized that modern conflicts, crises, and humanitarian threats are having a profound impact on the lives of millions around the world. Under these conditions, she noted, parliaments must play a crucial role in promoting humanitarian principles, protecting human rights, and strengthening international solidarity.

Narbaeva presented Uzbekistan’s initiatives in the humanitarian sphere, pointing out that, according to international organizations, more than 310 million people worldwide are currently in need of humanitarian assistance due to over 120 armed conflicts. These figures, she stressed, underscore the importance of initiatives aimed at ensuring compliance with humanitarian norms and improving crisis response mechanisms.

Uzbekistan, she added, actively contributes to international humanitarian efforts, providing temporary housing, medical care, and social support to populations in unstable regions. These measures reflect the country’s unwavering commitment to the principles of humanism, peace, and mutual assistance.

The session also discussed enhancing legislative and digital cooperation among parliaments, improving the efficiency of humanitarian resource use, expanding international funding, and training qualified humanitarian professionals.

In conclusion, Tanzila Narbaeva stressed that humanism is the legal and moral foundation of sustainable development, and that the role of parliaments in promoting these values is vital to ensuring peace and stability.
