Delegation of Tashkent Region Studies Russian Experience in Cultivating New Grain Varieties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Tashkent region, led by First Deputy Hokim for Agriculture and Water Management Khurshid Karabayev, is currently on a working visit to several regions of the Russian Federation.
The main purpose of the visit is to familiarize with advanced seed production technologies, study the experience of developing new grain varieties, and assess opportunities for their practical application.
One of the key stops of the visit was the P.P. Lukyanenko National Grain Research Center in Krasnodar.
The Uzbek delegation learned about ongoing scientific research, the laboratory’s work on breeding new varieties, and practices in developing high-yield crops. Meetings were also held to exchange expertise and explore avenues for broader cooperation.
According to regional plans, in 2026 grain crops will be sown on 8,320 hectares, including 4,910 hectares with new wheat varieties adapted to local soil and climate conditions and offering high yield potential.
To support the sowing campaign, 945 tons of seeds are required, covering 59% of the total demand. Contracts have already been signed for the delivery of 385 tons, which will be used to plant 1,725 hectares of land.
Authorities in Tashkent region aim to establish imports of new wheat varieties and distribute them among local farms, a move expected to boost the efficiency of the agricultural sector and strengthen the region’s food security.
