Delegation of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan visits Germany

A parliamentary delegation led by the Chairperson of the Committee on democratic institutes, NGOs and self-governing bodies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov paid a working visit to Germany on 24-25 October.
The Uzbek delegation met with the MPs of German parliament and participated in the roundtable “Democratic standards of holding elections of the President of Uzbekistan”, which was attended by the officials of German Government, parliament, public, expert and academic circles.
At the meeting, the German side was familiarized with the social-economic and political-legal processes in Uzbekistan, reforms in judicial-legal spheres and measures on further strengthening of civil institutes in the country.
The participants also received information on preparations to the presidential elections, which will be held on 4 December 2016 and legal framework of the presidential elections.
It was noted that OSCE ODIHR will send observers to the presidential elections in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek side also invited missions of the CIS, SCO, OIC and other organizations.
German side expressed interest in efforts of Uzbekistan in further democratization of the society, strengthening independence of judicial system and liberalization of economy. They also received information on operation of virtual cabinet of Prime Minister of Uzbekistan.
