Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda arrived in Uzbekistan today to participate in a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on trade and economic issues, Asia Plus agency reported.
At the Tashkent International Airport named after Islam Karimov, the distinguished guest was met by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and other officials.
The meeting will consider issues of building up cooperation in the economy, trade, investment, the agricultural sector, energy, transport.
The Tajik delegation included the heads of the economic block of the republic's government.
The Tajik delegation within the framework of the visit to Tashkent will visit a number of industrial enterprises of the capital of Uzbekistan.
"The governments of the two states will also consider the implementation of the tasks set by the heads of state to bring the volume of annual trade between the countries to US$1 billion," the source said.
According to him, in Tashkent, government delegations will also discuss preparations for the official visit of the leader of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Dushanbe, scheduled for 10-12 June.
"Following the June visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the parties intend to sign about 30 intergovernmental agreements in the fields of energy, transport, trade, investment, security, education and culture," the source concluded.
Earlier on 13 May, a telephone conversation took place between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon, who congratulated each other and the fraternal peoples of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the holy holiday of Ramadan.
Particular attention was paid to the preparation of the upcoming summit meeting. The main task of the next meeting of the joint Intergovernmental Commission, which will be held under the chairmanship of the prime ministers this week in the city of Tashkent, named the search for new "points of growth" of mutually beneficial cooperation in the long term.
During the conversation, the leaders also discussed the practical aspects of regional cooperation. In this context, the sides emphasized with satisfaction the normalization of the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, which is an important factor in ensuring stability and security in Central Asia.
