DataVolt Considers Connecting Uzbekistan to Trans-Caspian Communication Line

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Saudi company DataVolt is exploring the possibility of connecting Uzbekistan to the international communication line running along the Caspian Sea seabed from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan. The announcement was made by DataVolt CEO Rajit Nanda in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

According to Nanda, most of the internet traffic currently passes through Europe, making the creation of alternative routes strategically important. Connecting to the Caspian line will enhance network resilience and security and could bring multi-billion economic benefits to the country.

“We are working on linking Uzbekistan to the submarine communication line that runs from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan across the Caspian Sea. This has great strategic and economic significance for Uzbekistan and opens up new opportunities in digital transformation,” said Rajit Nanda.

He also announced that DataVolt is launching a 12 MW data center in Tashkent’s IT Park — the first “green” data center in Central Asia to use artificial intelligence technologies. The construction of the facility officially began on 21 October with the participation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

DataVolt plans to expand its client base and strengthen partnerships with major global IT corporations, including Oracle and Amazon. The company is also considering projects to build new data centers in New Tashkent and the Bukhara region.

The Trans-Caspian cable project involves laying a 380-kilometer fiber-optic cable connecting Aktau (Kazakhstan) and Sumgait (Azerbaijan) with a capacity of up to 400 Tbit/s. The project is being implemented by AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom, with completion expected by the end of 2026.

The Trans-Caspian line will become part of the “Digital Silk Road” initiative, aimed at developing a high-speed telecommunication corridor linking Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and other countries across the region.
