Criminal Case Opened Against Two Tashkent Police Officers for Bribery

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A criminal case has been opened in Tashkent against two officers of the city’s Main Department of Internal Affairs (GUVD), suspected of accepting a bribe, according to the press service of law enforcement agencies.

During an operational action conducted by the State Security Service (SSS) on anti-corruption matters, illegal activities were uncovered involving a senior operative of the Criminal Investigation Department in Shaykhantahur district and a senior operative of the GUVD Tashkent Criminal Investigation Directorate.

They demanded a bribe in exchange for not prosecuting a 1982-born citizen from Almazar district, from whom 3 grams of “hashish” were seized during a search.

The GUVD officers initially received US$1,000, and the remaining US$1,200 was handed over to the senior operative in his office, where he was arrested by SSS officers. The second operative was detained in accordance with procedural law.

The Tashkent city prosecutor’s office has filed charges against both senior operatives under Article 210, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Bribery”). Both have been placed in pretrial detention, and investigative actions are ongoing.
