Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Presidential resolution was adopted on measures to create a system for providing medical and social assistance and free delivery of medicines to sick children diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy.

In accordance with the resolution: 

Sick children with a diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy within the framework of medical and social assistance are guaranteed to be provided by the state with pathogenetic medicines, medical and orthopedic devices, as well as technical means of rehabilitation;

pregnant women who are at risk for the disease "spinal muscular atrophy" undergo primary free diagnostics at the Republican Center "Screening for Mother and Child" and its regional centers and at the modern molecular genetic National Reference Laboratory and its regional branches.

From 1 July 2022, the Unified National Register of Families with a Clinical Diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy will be introduced, which is formed on the basis of clinical and molecular genetic diagnosis of families.

From 1 July 2023, the laboratory of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Hematology will conduct molecular genetic testing of persons entering into marriage at their own expense, by visiting the Republican Center for Reproductive Health of the Population and its regional centers.

From 1 May 2022, for sick children with a confirmed diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy, a process of multidisciplinary examination (neurologist, pediatrician, resuscitator, pulmonologist, orthopedist, surgeon) and treatment (operative contractures and straightening of bone deformities) will be organized in regional children’s multidisciplinary medical centers .

The resolution also established the Foundation for the Support of Sick Children Diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy under the Ministry of Health without the status of a legal entity.
