Corruption Perception Index: Uzbekistan loses one point, ranks 121st

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Transparency International has released the 2024 Corruption Perception Index, ranking Uzbekistan 121st out of 180 countries.

On a 100-point scale, where 0 represents a very high level of corruption and 100 indicates minimal corruption, Uzbekistan scored 32 points, one point lower than the previous year. The country shares this score with Angola, Ecuador, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Togo.

The average score for Eastern Europe and Central Asia remains among the lowest in the index at 35 points. Transparency International’s regional review highlights that the weakness of democratic institutions and the erosion of the rule of law—amid instability and external pressures—create favorable conditions for corruption, undermining public trust, hindering sustainable development, and obstructing climate policy efforts.

Among regional leaders, Georgia (53 points), Armenia (47), and Montenegro (46) secured the highest rankings. Meanwhile, Russia and Azerbaijan (22 points each), Tajikistan (19), and Turkmenistan (17) ranked among the lowest. Kazakhstan scored 40 points, while Kyrgyzstan received 25.

Denmark topped the index for the seventh consecutive year with 90 points, followed by Finland (88) and Singapore (84). At the bottom of the list were Venezuela (10 points), Somalia (9), and South Sudan (8).
