Corruption Cases Uncovered in Namangan, Surkhandarya

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officers of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan together with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan have uncovered two corruption cases in the Namangan and Surkhandarya regions.

In the Kosonsoy district of the Namangan region, two engineers from a regional electricity network enterprise allegedly abused their official positions by receiving 17 million soums from an entrepreneur for preparing technical documentation for a 50-kW solar panel system and carrying out related work at a building owned by his limited liability company.

The violations were documented and material evidence was seized during the operation.

In the Surkhandarya region, an employee of the gas supply organization Uzuntumangaz, born in 1977, allegedly took advantage of a malfunctioning gas meter belonging to a local resident and, through an intermediary, received 5 million soums to write off a debt of 23 million soums and avoid drawing up the relevant report.

Another employee, born in 1988, is also implicated in the illegal activity.

Criminal cases have been opened in both incidents, and investigative actions are currently underway.

Law enforcement authorities said they will continue a comprehensive effort to detect and prevent corruption schemes in the energy and public utilities sectors.
