Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 December 2020, within the framework of the visit of the government delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held a meeting with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Japanese Organization for the Development of Foreign Trade (JETRO) Nobuhiko Sasaki, dedicated to the discussion of issues of further development of bilateral partnership.
Speaking about the current state of implementation of the agreements reached during the high-level visit to Japan in December 2019, the parties highly appreciated the efficiency of the JETRO representative office in Tashkent. Thus, with the practical assistance of Japanese specialists, at the beginning of December of this year, the digital Japanese university “Digital Knowledge” began its work in Uzbekistan, in which students have the opportunity to obtain double higher education. The effectiveness of the measures taken by the representative office to provide support to Japanese companies making direct investments in Uzbekistan, such as H.I.S., Isuzu Motors, Balcom Co. Ltd, Gakko Plus and others, as well as promoting the export of Uzbek fruits and vegetables and textile products to the Japanese market.
An agreement was reached to intensify interaction to attract Japanese companies to do business in Uzbekistan through active cooperation with Uzbek entrepreneurs on the implementation of mutually beneficial investment projects. It was noted that the expansion of the presence of Japanese capital and technology will have a positive impact on the growth of the potential of the private sector in the Republic and give a powerful impetus to the country’s technological development.
In this context, practical issues related to the holding of a business forum in Tashkent with the participation of representatives of the Uzbek and Japanese business communities within the framework of the regular 16th meeting of the Uzbek-Japanese and Japanese-Uzbek committees for economic cooperation were worked out. These events are planned to be held in March 2021.
The Japanese side expressed readiness to send a business mission to Uzbekistan headed by the head of JETRO and as part of representatives of large companies and corporations of Japan interested in establishing business partnerships in promising sectors of the economy.
The parties also agreed to hold an online forum in December this year for representatives of the Uzbek and Japanese business communities, the purpose of which will be to establish direct contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries. The online forum is planned to coincide with the "Days of Tashkent" in Nagoya.
