Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tokyo organized negotiations in the format of a video conference with the leadership of one of the largest research institutes in Japan - RIKEN: the director of the Beijing office, Professor Yutani Yasuaki, manager of the International Relations Department of the head office of Suzuki Ichiro - to discuss directions and formats of bilateral interaction.
RIKEN was founded in 1917 and includes 13 research centers, 500 world-class laboratories throughout Japan with main campuses in Wako, Tsukuba, Yokohama, Kobe, Sendai and Harima. He is engaged in research in areas covering the entire spectrum of natural sciences, from biology and neurobiology to quantum physics and computer science. It has a number of foreign divisions: research centers at the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory (UK) and Brookhaven National Laboratory (USA), the Center for Neurosciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Singapore and Beijing offices.
RIKEN’s activities can be divided into four main categories: strategic research centers, research infrastructure centers, a pioneering research cluster and a science, technology and innovation center cluster - interacting within an integrated research system.
The research institute employs about 3.5 thousand scientists and researchers, among whom about 20% are foreigners.
As noted by Y. Yutani, RIKEN provides an opportunity for foreign students of partner universities within the framework of the Joint Doctoral Program to conduct research for a maximum of 3 years, providing them with funding for their stay in Japan. Interaction with research organizations of the republic was also discussed. Natural sciences, nuclear physics, medical sciences, informatics, etc. are marked as directions.
An agreement was reached to hold further negotiations on the establishment of cooperation between RIKEN and research organizations of the republic.
