Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 March 2022, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on the development of the Aral Sea region and ecology Boriy Alikhanov met with Latvian Minister of Agriculture Kaspar Gerhards.

During the meeting, it was especially emphasized that in recent years, bilateral cooperation between our countries has reached a new level.

The parties discussed issues of ecology and environmental protection, ensuring environmental stability, trade and the economy.

During the meeting, it was noted that both countries are interested in exporting agricultural products produced in Latvia to Uzbekistan, and food products and pharmaceuticals from Uzbekistan to Latvia.

In addition, special attention was focused on the reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in order to improve the welfare of the population, in particular, the integrated socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Thus, Mr Alikhanov dwelled in detail on the opportunities created in Karakalpakstan, benefits and preferences for the development of entrepreneurship.

An exchange of views took place on the application of innovative technologies in the cultivation of agricultural products, the introduction of water and resource-saving installations, the development of animal husbandry, the production of meat and dairy products, the establishment of processing, the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources, and the exchange of experience in the field of "green economy". The discussion also focused on the issues of attracting investments in these areas.

In addition, detailed information is provided on the work carried out in the country to protect the environment, protect public health by ensuring environmental sustainability, in particular, about the nationwide Green Space project being implemented in the republic, its essence and content.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of Latvian investors to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, getting acquainted with the opportunities created for the development of entrepreneurship in the region, including the implementation of business trips of Uzbek specialists to Latvia.
